Affinity Sections
Affinity Sections are made up of individuals with common experiences or backgrounds; they are a place for people to share challenges and successes with similarly situated legal professionals.
Honorable Frank Kim Asian/Pacific Islanders
Its purpose is to unite its members behind the common goal to: Address issues of concern prevalent in the Asian Pacific Islander community; serve the needs of the Asian Pacific Islander community; Cultivate relationships with local community leaders; provide information and services for Asian Pacific Islander community; and advance the goals of the San Joaquin County Bar Association Board of Governors.
Justice William J. Murray Jr. Unity Bar
This Section is for everyone who supports fairness, inclusivity and diversity in our profession and throughout our community. We act as change agents by providing educational opportunities concerning legal topics addressing fairness and equality issues. We also provide programs about people from different cultures and walks of life to promote respect for everyone in our diverse community. This is a very dynamic and active Section, with lots of opportunities to obtain MCLE credits locally.
Women Lawyers
Seeks to enhance the quality of life and culture of the legal community as a whole by encouraging and supporting women’s participation in the legal profession, fostering cooperation between sexes, providing networking opportunities, and educational and informational programs on topics relevant to its members.
Young Lawyers
Focuses on attorneys who have been admitted to the bar for 10 years or less to address issues that are typically encountered early in one’s practice. The Young Lawyers raises money for scholarships, offers CLEs, and provides networking and social opportunities to its members.
Practice-Specific Sections
Practice-Specific Sections are for legal professionals who focus their practices or wish to learn about other practice areas.
Civil Litigation
Supports its members to improve their ability to practice and client representation in civil matters. CLEs, events with judges, and other peer-to-peer interaction are offered, including service opportunities to those in and outside of the legal profession.
Criminal Law
Provides members Roundtable meetings and discussions on relevant practice topics; CLE programs to expand and improve practice skills; and networking opportunities to facilitate professional support among legal professionals working in criminal law.
Family Law
Hosts noontime quarterly meetings of the family law bench and bar (the 2nd Wednesday of each month to explore courthouse procedures, practice updates, and more, including custody mediations. Also offers other opportunities for family law professionals to interact and learn from each other.
Paralegal
Seeks to strengthen the professionalism and reputation of paralegals and other nonlawyer legal professionals by fostering the highest level of personal and professional integrity and promoting respect and confidence in the profession through education and networking regardless of age, race, creed, religion, sex, or sexual identity.
Trusts & Estates
Exists to further the knowledge of its members of all matters relating to probate, trust, and estate planning; encourage collegial gatherings Section members through programs, forums, and other activities; and coordinate and maintain professional, effective communication between practitioners and the Superior Court’s Probate Department.
