The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) of the San Joaquin County Bar Association (SJCBA) is certified by the State Bar of California to provide referrals to experienced attorneys.
You are matched up with an approved attorney to discuss the case. There is no referral fee for bankruptcy, personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful termination, Social Security, bad-faith insurance, or workers' compensation claims. Others pay a $40.00 referral fee. The SJCBA makes sure that you are matched with a qualified attorney. In some cases, depending on income, the referral fee is waived.
During the initial 30-minute consultation, included as part of the referral fee, you and the attorney determine whether you have a case. You and the attorney will agree on payment for any time going forward, should you hire them.
Once you hire an attorney, you can return to that attorney for other matters without contacting the SJCBA or paying any more referral fees. You may find your lifelong attorney from your first referral. You are always welcome to seek a new referral from the SJCBA LRS.
Every attorney referred is required to have met specific qualifications. Most of the LRS attorneys have years of experience and expertise. All LRS attorneys are reviewed by a Peer Review Panel every two years.
